Beverley O'Neil Profile
Beverley O'Neil is a citizen of the Ktunaxa First Nation, and owner of O'Neil Marketing & Consulting, and Numa Communications Ltd. Prior to starting her own businesses, O'Neil worked as the Director of Community Economic Development for the Ktunaxa/Kinbasket Tribal Council.

In her businesses, she focuses on community economic development in a wide range of sectors including tourism, culture, trade, facilitation, fundraising, event planning, training programs, proposal preparation, and business and marketing planning. These services are targeted to developingnations through community, cultural and corporate relationship building, as well as women and youth initiatives.

The experience she brings includes:

  • Public consultation and facilitation for corporate and national organizations on sustainability, energy planning and exports, Aboriginal culture, restructuring and economic development;
  • Aboriginal joint venture, business and economic development planning;
  • Coordination of Band involvement in Tribal and private sector initiatives; and,
  • Marketing, Media and Publicity services.

Many people recognize her through her column for Kahtou newspaper... the Voice of BC's First Nations for five years, as well as her numerous public speaking engagements, and as the newest columnist in the Indigenous Business Magazine. She has also authored papers on "Aboriginal Independent Power Production in BC" and "Water Used to be Free" (a paper on environmental sustainability).

In September 1998, she was the cover story of the first issue of Realm, a magazine for Canada's entrepreneurial youthand in September 2001 there wasa follow-up story on her. In 2001, Beverley was a finalist for theVancouver YWCA Women of Distinction Awards - Entrepreneur / Innovator Award,and in August 2003 she was awarded the Ambassador Award from the AboriginalTourism Association of BC (AtBC).

Beverley is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the VancouverAquarium and the City of Vancouver Peace and Justice Committee. She hasalso served on the boards of Tourism British Columbia, Leadership Vancouver,and the Big Sisters of Lower Mainland First Nations Mentoring ProgramCommittee. Other past boards include the BC Wine Institute, BC Energy Council, BC Public Interest Advocacy Centre, and the Native Economic Development Advisory Board. O'Neil is also co-founder of the Aboriginal Business Club (a Vancouver based club that promotes network development amongst Aboriginal people and agencies who do business in the Aboriginal community).
